Good Book Ministries is a non-denominational Christian non-profit organization which finances, facilitates and executes the free-of-charge distribution of Holy Bibles and other Christian educational materials at appropriate venues and community events, for example food drives, homeless shelters and gathering locations, soup kitchens, fairs, and marketplaces. We also donate Bibles free of charge to low income churches and Christian ministries.
Our ministry started in the second half of 2021 with a small and dedicated team of Christian volunteers handing out free Bibles at the food drives of Calvary Chapel Meadow Mesa in Las Vegas, Nevada. Interacting with more than 200 people from our local community every week, we discovered that there exists a real ‘hunger for the Word’ in our troubled and apostatic society, as the Bible predicted (Amos 8:11).
Seeing God bless so many people, we became eager to expand our activities. Soon, the Holy Spirit sent us additional volunteers and our ministry grew to include an outreach to the homeless population in Jaycee Community Park, as well as evangelism activities at several large supermarkets in Las Vegas. Good Book Ministries was conceived and incorporated in October 2022 and is now a registered 501(c)3 tax exempted Christian charity.
Rapidly growing since, we already have volunteers from seven local churches active in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Mexico, and Ecuador. We have given out well over a thousand Bibles since the inception of our ministry and we expect that the Holy Spirit will help us distribute many times that number in the coming year.
We envision an inter-denominational and global outreach, and we are looking for Christian volunteers, anywhere on the globe, who are enthusiastic about sharing the Word of God with the world.
Eric Weterings (President)
Florinda Mazer (Director of Operations)
Eric and Florinda are the founders of Good Book Ministries. Worshiping and volunteering at Calvary Chapel Meadow Mesa (CCMM) in Las Vegas, this married couple was led by the Holy Spirit to start ministering and evangelizing at the CCMM food drive. Originally giving out home-made pamphlets with key Bible verses, they soon moved on to distribute free Bibles to interested patrons and recognized a clear need to reach out to a bigger audience at a larger scale. Together with other attending members and volunteers of CCMM, they formed our Board of Directors and incorporated Good Book Ministries on October 25, 2022. Eric serves as our first President and is responsible for the overall leadership of Good Book Ministries. Previously a Professor at the University of Arizona, he has ample experience with project management and grant acquisition. Following his love for ministry, Scripture, and theology, Eric is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Biblical Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. Florinda is a dedicated home health nurse with a warm heart for serving and helping others. Although she loves spending hours in deep prayer, Florinda is foremost a doer of the Word (James 1:22) who likes attending to the practical aspects of ministry. As Director of Operations, she is entrusted with the management of the daily activities of Good Book Ministry. Being fluent in both English and Spanish, Florinda is ideally suited to establish international relationships.
Gus Hucks (Vice-President)
Rochel Hucks (Treasurer)
Gus and Rochel came to us from beautiful Hawaii, where they gave their lives to the Lord Jesus while attending Calvary Chapel West Oahu. In Oahu, Gus and Rochel were actively involved in Christian outreach and church planting efforts in the community of Laie. They also served in both the prison and children’s ministries of Calvary Chapel West Oahu. Passionately enthusiastic about working with the little ones, they quickly joined the Children’s Ministry of Calvary Chapel Meadow Mesa after moving to Las Vegas. They now teach their young pupils the Word of God during regular Sunday service and once a month on Saturday as part of The Way. The latter is a new and growing program initiated by Calvary Chapel Meadow Mesa and intended to provide our children with Christian instruction at a typical Sunday School level, but also to assist them with math and reading. Gus and Rochel have plenty of entrepreneurial experience. Previously owning a plumbing company in Hawaii, they now established a bookkeeping company – Good News Bookkeeping LLC – in Las Vegas. Rochel is a licensed bookkeeper and a certified QuickBooks® co-advisor, skills which place her in an ideal position to serve as Good Book Ministries’ Treasurer.
Juan Carlos Torres (Secretary)
Born and raised in Mexico, Juan has served the Lord in the United States for more than twenty years. Saved by the Lord Jesus from a life of addiction, he has been a long-standing member of Calvary Chapel Meadow Mesa (CCMM) and Agua Viva, the Spanish ministry of CCMM. Juan currently serves as a percussionist and vocalist in the CCMM worship team, enjoying every minute in the freedom of the Lord. In his spare time, Juan is involved in community outreach with other Agua Viva members at Mariana’s Supermarket in Las Vegas, targeting the local Hispanic population. He serves as Board member and secretary for Good Book Ministries, but also volunteers by distributing Bibles in his native country, Mexico.
Julie Ahumada Vélez (Associate Director)
Julie is passionate about ministering to the poor and the orphans. She regularly cooks for the homeless in the parks of Las Vegas and she is actively involved in Christian outreach efforts in Jaycee Community Park. Furthermore, Julie volunteers weekly at the Calvary Chapel Meadow Mesa food drive where she prays with patrons in need and helps with distributing Bibles. When she has time to travel, Julie also ministers at several orphanages in Tijuana, Mexico. Julie is a mother of three daughters and an entrepreneur who works in her own beauty salon.
Sid Leon (Associate Director)
Sid has been a Christian for over thirty years, twenty of which he spent worshipping God at his home church, Agua Viva in Las Vegas, where he currently serves as the worship leader. Sid is passionate about leading his new believer’s class, where he teaches and mentors those who were recently born again in Christ Jesus. Some of his mentees are already evangelizing, despite having to overcome backgrounds in significant substance abuse prior to their new life as followers of Christ. Sid serves as a Board member of Good Book Ministries.
